Mentally disturbed man killed in Gaza

KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A Palestinian said to be mentally ill was killed Saturday by Israeli army gunfire near the southern Gaza village of Khan Younis.

Ibrahim Shawaf died from a bullet wound in his head when Israeli army troops stationed at the border between eastern Khan Younis and Israel opened fire.

There was no immediate comment concerning the incident from Israel.

Israeli Army Chief of Staff Moshe Yaalon ordered a halt Friday of all "offensive" operations in Gaza following the deployment of Palestinian security forces in the area under a joint agreement to curb militants from firing rockets at Israelis.
