SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A Southern California molestation suspect was arrested in Idaho this week after allegedly faking his own death more than two years ago.
Daniel James Farinholt was picked up in Boise where he was working as a computer engineer after allegedly skipping bail and staging a bloody death scene aboard his boat off the coast of Los Angeles.
Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino told the Los Angeles Times Wednesday that Farinholt was tracked down after a helpful tip was phoned into Fox TV's "America's Most Wanted."
Farinholt disappeared in May 2002 after being charged with molesting a child at his home in Lake Forest.
After posting $100,000 bail, Farinholt seemingly met a tragic end in a boating accident. Police found his car parked in El Segundo, adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport, and later located his 24-foot cabin cruiser and significant blood stains about a quarter-mile offshore in Santa Monica Bay.
The Times said investigators had concluded Farinholt had faked his death after divers scoured the waters nearby and found no body.
