Jordan Islamists reject violence

AMMAN, Jordan, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Abdel Majid Thuneibat, the head of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, said his group rejects violence.

In comments published Tuesday, Thuneibat said his group "does not acknowledge violence as a way for achieving goals and believes in the variety of opinions."

He said the history of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan since the early 1940s is free of violent incidents, proving the group never resorted to or preached violence.

Thuneibat said the Islamic movement is an ally of the state, not an enemy, though they differ on certain policies.

"We believe in dialogue and discussion with the government," he said.
