Ex-teacher engaged to ex-student

SEATTLE, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- A former teacher jailed for more than seven years for having sex with a 13-year-old boy says she and the now adult former student are engaged.

Mary Kay LeTourneau, appearing on CNN's "Larry King Live," said at the time of the encounter she didn't know that having sex with a sixth-grader was a felony.

She said she and Vili Fualaau "have a time frame, but not a specific date" for their wedding.

Fualaau, now 21, has fathered two children with LeTourneau, who was released from a Washington State prison two months ago.

LeTourneau made headlines in 1996 when she was arrested twice for her illegal relationship, CNN reported. After her first arrest, LeTourneau pleaded guilty to second-degree child rape and was sentenced to six months in jail.

She was released early, but ordered not to have contact with the boy. However, a few weeks later a police officer came upon the couple in a parked car. A judge then sentenced her to an 89-month prison sentence.
