Gallup: View of U.S. economy up barely

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- The view most Americans hold of economic conditions in the United States remained largely unchanged since August, the Gallup organization said Monday.

More Americans now say the economy is "getting better," 47 percent, while 45 percent said it was "getting worse." In Gallup's August survey, more Americans said it was getting worse - 46 percent - than getting better, 45 percent.

The September Gallup survey the number of American's who said economic conditions are "excellent" to be 3 percent, unchanged from what was registered in the August poll.

Also unchanged, remaining 36 percent, is the number of Americans who say conditions are "good."

At the lower end of the performance scale, 22 percent of the 1,002 U.S. adults surveyed by Gallup from Sept. 13-15 say economic conditions are "poor" - up 1 point from the August survey. Those who said conditions were "only fair" are 39 percent, down 1 point from the 40 percent registered in the August poll. The difference, inside the plus or minus 3 point margin of error, is statistically insignificant.
