Lebanese TV channel faces French ban

PARIS, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A Lebanese television channel could be barred from France unless it agrees to desist from any anti-Semitic programming.

Al-Manar TV showed a drama "The Diaspora" last year that depicted a Zionist plot for world domination. While the channel's foreign editor told the BBC that the show concerned Israeli policy, BBC correspondents say it quoted from "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," the notorious anti-Semitic pamphlet.

The French broadcasting authority says that Al-Manar must sign the country's code of conduct for media by Oct. 1 or the satellite that carries its signal will be ordered to take it off the air.
