'Jeopardy' champ makes it $1,050,460

LOS ANGELES, July 15 (UPI) -- Salt Lake City software engineer Ken Jennings Thursday added $28,000 to his "Jeopardy" winnings to bring his total to $1,050,460.

It was Jennings' 32nd straight appearance.

Jennings topped law librarian Tom Vanderloo of Hixson, Tenn., and teacher Lou Ascatigno of Concord, Calif., who won $8,199 and $8,400, respectively

Jennings went into the final round with $27,600 and wagered $400 on the answer: "With a book about the South, he became the first president, past or present, to publish a novel."

Both Jennings and Ascatigno came up with the correct question: "Who is Jimmy Carter?" The title of the book was "The Hornet's Nest."
