Saddam Hussein to have Gadhafi lawyer

BAGHDAD, July 6 (UPI) -- One of the lawyers who will defend former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein is the eldest daughter of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

Aisha Gadhafi, known only to be in her late 20s became the latest to join the team of Jordanian and other lawyers to defend Saddam at his forthcoming war crimes and genocide trial in Baghdad.

Gadhafi holds a doctorate in law from the Sorbonne in Paris and defied a United Nations travel ban in October 2000 to fly to Iraq to meet Saddam, The Times of London said Tuesday.

A delegation of his defense attorneys flew from Amman Monday to meet with the younger Gadhafi in Tripoli, the newspaper said.

Her role in his legal team is likely to cause friction for her father, who is attempting to reposition Libya as a friend of the West after years in the wilderness, Sky News said.
