Peruvians in U.S. to get legal aid

LIMA, June 23 (UPI) -- Peruvians living in U.S. cities without a Peruvian consulate will be able to seek legal services at Mexican consulates instead.

Peruvian Secretary of State Manuel Rodriguez Cuadros announced an agreement Wednesday allowing some 1 million Peruvians living in such cities to seek legal from Mexico's facilities.

Peruvian consular officials, including honorary consuls, who have no physical facilities, will be able to carry out services in Mexican consulates located in U.S. cities with a high density of Peruvian migrants under the Program of Cooperation reached by secretaries of state of Peru and Mexico. Mexico operates 43 consulates in the United States.

In exchange, Peruvian consular officials will work with their Mexican counterparts on issues of migration and the law.
