Two teens held in murder plot

WINDER, Ga., May 19 (UPI) -- Two Barrow County, Ga., middle school students have been charged with plotting what authorities call a "Columbine-type" plan at their school.

The unidentified teens are being held without bond and are scheduled to appear in juvenile court in Gainesville, Ga., Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, making terrorist threats and disruption of a public school, said Lt. Kristi Schmitt, a Winder, Ga., police spokesman.

Schmitt said the boys, both 14, planned to kill a teacher at the school and then anyone else who tried to intervene. They also planned to kill themselves, she said.

She said police found both long guns and handguns in their homes, all of them belonging to their parents.

"If there is anything positive in this ... it is that kids at school reported it to us and we acted on it quickly," said Superintendent Ron Saunders of the Barrow County school district.

The Columbine assault five years ago took 15 lives in Littleton, Colo., including the two teenagers who caused it.
