Libya won't sell tech to Iran, N. Korea

WASHINGTON, May 13 (UPI) -- Libya has told the United States it will stop selling missile-related equipment to certain countries of "serious ... concern," the U.S. State Department said.

John Bolton, undersecretary for arms control and international security, said Thursday Libya indicated it will renounce trade in missiles and missile-related equipment and technology with countries that are not members of the Missile Technology Control Regime. He said the United States "welcomes" the statement.

A statement from Libya read by Bolton said: "Libya announced in December 2003 that it renounced programs, materials and equipment which might lead to the production of internationally banned weapons or delivery systems as classified by the MTCR. Libya wishes to announce officially the application of this decision to its military dealings with other states."

"Libya will not deal in any military goods or services with states which Libya considers to be of serious weapons of mass destruction proliferation concern."

Bolton said the states affected include North Korea, Syria and Iran.
