WILKES-BARRE, Pa., May 10 (UPI) -- Pennsylvania's Gov. Ed Rendell, already under fire for speeding in a chauffeur driven car, has had his bus clocked speeding by a newspaper.
"The governor got spanked in the press, and promised that he would never travel at unsafe speeds again. But our governor, at least when I tailed him, is not a man of his word," wrote the Casey Jones, of the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Times Leader.
"On two successive Fridays in April, in a mad dash across parts of three counties, I followed 'Commonwealth One,' the governor's motor coach."
Jones described the bus as having gone "32 mph in a 25 mph zone on Broad Street in Hazleton, Pa., and 60 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 924 outside of town," as well as hitting speeds in excess of 80 mph on Interstate 81.
"It was a hair-raising ride up and down the mountains in my little four-cylinder Ford Escort, which had never known such speeds before," Jones said. "But it sure was nice not having to worry about getting a ticket."
Almost six weeks ago, a Philadelphia newspaper reported that Rendell's car had been clocked at speeds in excess of 100 mph nine different times.
