S. Korean court to mull impeachment

SEOUL, May 1 (UPI) -- South Korea's high court has concluded its last hearing concerning President Roh Moo-hyun's impeachment, the Korea Times reported Saturday.

The nine-justice court had planned to hear closing arguments from the two sides Tuesday, but postponed the court session until Friday after a dispute arose over the state prosecution's refusal to submit investigation records on Roh's aides involved in corruption.

With the last public hearing concluded, the court now begins its deliberations and is expected to issue its decision later this month.

The National Assembly needs at least six of the nine judges to uphold its vote to impeach President Roh. If the court decides to do so, he will be immediately removed and the nation will have to elect a new head of state within 60 days.
