The man was working atop the Crazy Submarine ride at the Gibraltar Trade Center late Thursday night when another employee offered a 5-year-old child one last swing, not knowing the co-worker was on it, the local union said.

The victim's injuries were reportedly so severe that a medical helicopter was turned away.

"He was caught in between it," said Shane Anders, a tow-truck operator, who was called to help pull the victim from beneath the ride.

The child was not injured.

An investigation into the incident was pending.
