ARLON, Belgium, April 19 (UPI) -- A young Belgian woman on Monday confronted the man on trial and accused of abducting and raping her with questions about why he didn't kill her.
The emotional outburst came from Sabine Dardenne, now 20, directed at Marc Dutroux at his trial for kidnapping, rape and murder in Arlon.
Dardenne was 12 when she was abducted and repeatedly raped during her 80-day captivity in 1996. She was the first to be rescued from Dutroux's cellar in 1996, and asked him in court why he hadn't killed her.
He replied it was never his intention to kill her.
Dutroux admits to the abduction and rape charges, but denies involvement in the deaths of four other girls, whose bodies were found buried in his backyard garden.
Dutroux, 47, is on trial with his ex-wife and two others for the abduction, rape and murder of girls in the mid-1990s.
More than 400 witnesses are expected to give evidence in the pedophile trial, which is expected to last until June, the BBC reported.
