PA: Gaza pullout will destroy peace

GAZA, April 14 (UPI) -- Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority Wednesday rejected Israel's unilateral withdrawal plan from Gaza, warning it would destroy last peace chances.

A statement issued after an emergency meeting of the Palestinian government under Arafat and Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia cautioned against the "dangers of sealing an agreement" between Israeli Premier Ariel Sharon and U.S. President George Bush giving Israel the green light to pull out of Gaza unilaterally.

"Such an agreement would clearly mean the actual end of the peace process since it will decide on issues that were supposed to be discussed in peace negotiations on the final status," the statement said.

It charged, "The deal which Sharon insists on concluding with the Americans is done on the expense of the rights of the Palestinian people and the Arab nation from behind the back of the Palestinian leadership.

"It is a deal in favor of occupation and the racist 'security barrier' and will destroy the last chances of peace by unleashing violence on a wide scale."
