Long legal briefs have already been filed in the case.

The five were convicted in Miami in 2001 of espionage-related charges for infiltrating U.S. military facilities and anti-Castro groups. They have admitted acting as Cuban intelligence agents working on orders from Havana.

One of them, Gerardo Hernandez, was convicted of the most serious charge of conspiracy to commit murder in the Cuban MiG attack on two Brothers to the Rescue planes that killed four fliers in 1996.

All five have become national heroes in Cuba.
