Kerry and Edwards both beat Bush in poll

WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Democrat John Kerry's lead over U.S. President George Bush in recent polling surveys keeps growing, according to recent New Jersey survey results.

A new USA Today-CNN-Gallup poll of likely voters showed Wednesday showed that in a head-to-head match-up, Kerry would beat Bush 55-43. That contrasts to the previous such poll, taken earlier in February, that had Bush beating Kerry 49-48.

Edwards performed well, too, against Bush in the latest poll. He beat Bush 54-44.

The poll indicates Kerry and Edwards hold lesser leads -- or no lead at all -- when all registered voters are measured. Kerry has a 51-46 edge over the president among registered voters, and Edwards holds a 49-48 edge, a statistical tie.

The poll, by the Gallup group of Princeton, N.J., has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
