Kucinich outlines his plan for world peace

CLEVELAND, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich has released phase one of his "World Peace Initiative," aimed at eliminating nuclear threats.

"The holiday season is a time of common aspiration for peace on Earth, but this holiday season the Bush administration is taking us in the opposite direction, undermining international efforts to stop the spread of nuclear arms," the Ohio Congressman wrote in a statement released to media Christmas Day.

Kucinich said the government is putting the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in jeopardy by actively developing new nuclear weapons.

If he wins the Democratic nomination and defeats President Bush, Kucinich promised to end the development, manufacture or testing of nuclear weapons.

He also promised to negotiate similar terms with all nuclear powers, including North Korea and work with Russian President Vladimir Putin to reinstate the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.

"In this season of peace, the administration is conjuring nuclear war," Kucinich wrote, adding his phase one plan is "imperative" to attaining world peace.
