Two missing after tanker explosion

HIROSHIMA, Japan, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Two Filipino seamen are missing Wednesday after an explosion onboard an ethanol tanker off the coast of Japan, Mainichi reported.

The blast occurred in the Seto Inland Sea around 3 p.m. local time, coast guard officers said.

The rest of the 19-man crew of the 4,356-ton Panamanian-registered "Sun Venus" was accounted for, the officers said.

The tanker, which left the southern part of South Korea on Tuesday night with about 4,000 tons of ethanol onboard, was scheduled to arrive at the Port of Kobe early Thursday, its Tokyo-based operator said.
