'Lump Lump' whacks mouthy critic of singer

NEW YORK, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- A suspected mobster was charged in the shooting death of a man criticizing a singer at a New York City nightclub.

Louis "Lump Lump" Barone, 67, put a .38-caliber slug in Albert Circelli's back after the two exchanged obscenities following a rendition of "Don't Rain on My Parade" by Broadway singer Rena Strober, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

Patrons told police a man had been heckling Strober Monday night when Barone, a regular at the east Harlem restaurant, told him pipe down.

Infuriated, Barone followed him towards the exit and shot twice, hitting the man once and another patron in the foot.

Barone, a known "wise guy" with an arrest record going back to 1962, was charged Tuesday with second degree murder, assault and weapons possession.

"I lost face. I had to defend my honor," he told two police officers he bumped into as he walked out of the restaurants.

Circelli, who lived with his mother and grandmother in Yonkers, had been arrested once for assault, police said. Records show he owned seven cars, including four Cadillacs and a Ferrari.
