Traveler arrested with two blades in shoe

MIAMI, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Law enforcement officials jailed a West Chester, Pa., man Monday on charges of carrying a concealed weapon at Miami International Airport.

The Transportation Safety Administration said David McIntyre had concealed a hacksaw blade and a razor blade in his shoe as he prepared to get on a flight with his family.

He told officers that he had forgotten the blades were there when he came to the airport.

Mark Forare of the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department said the arrest had little to do with the nation's terrorist alert status, which had been raised to orange, or high, over the weekend.

"This was not an uncommon arrest and we don't associate it with the heightened alert. This is a pretty normal operation for us," Forare told reporters at the airport.

He said the heightened alert was not a problem at the airport so far.
