TRIPOLI, Libya, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi reiterated his country's wish to quit the 22-nation Arab League Thursday, saying he has "no hope at all" in the Arabs.
He said Libya would only reconsider its position if the Arab countries agreed to get together to decide on collective means "to confront the violation of Arab land in Iraq and the Palestinian territories."
"Libya will not accept to carry that historical shame and will not be Arab at a time the land of the Arabs is being trespassed," Gadhafi said Thursday after a meeting with visiting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
"Foreign forces passing through Arab countries to destroy an Arab state -- houses being destroyed, children killed, women displaced -- we'd be better off Africans than Arabs having to watch all that without doing something," Gadhafi said.
Libya tried more than once to quit the Arab League in protest against Arab weakness and inter-Arab divisions, but refrained at the last minute in response to pleas by the Arab League secretary-general.
