SAN DIEGO, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- AT&T officials announced Tuesday a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support wildfire relief efforts in southern California.

In addition, AT&T said it will provide 10,000, 30-minute pre-paid phone cards to help individuals displaced by the wildfires keep in touch with loved ones.

The company said it sent 11 of its network disaster recovery technology units to the San Diego area, but noted the AT&T telephone network is not in danger as of Tuesday.

AT&T-California President Ken McNeely said: "With more than 1,100 homes already destroyed by the raging wildfires, we recognize that local agencies are being inundated by residents in need of housing, clothing and food. Our donation to the Red Cross and the provision of prepaid cards for people needing to call families, friends and others for assistance is the fastest aid we can provide."

AT&T also notified employees it would match donations of $25 or more, up to an additional $10,000.
