LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- A reputed Compton gang member was held without bail Tuesday in the weekend slaying of a sister of tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams.
Aaron Michael Hammer, 24, was arrested on a parole violation and for suspicion of murder in the Sunday morning death of 31-year-old Yetunde Price.
Price was shot to death during some kind of altercation on a street in the Williams' hometown of Compton near a suspected drug house.
The Los Angeles Times said Hammer, also a Compton native, is one of the few white members of the notorious Crips street gang.
Also detained was Price's male companion at the time of the shooting, Rolland Wormley, a parolee who drove the mortally wounded Price to a relative's home in neighboring Long Beach before calling 911.
Price died at a Long Beach hospital. A prayer vigil was held for Price Monday night.
