25 feared killed in Indian chopper crash

NEW DELHI, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- At least 25 people were feared killed when a chopper carrying India's Oil and Natural Gas Corp. workers Monday crashed off the Mumbai coast.

The chopper, owned by a private charter company, was ferrying the workers from a rig in the oil field area to the shore when it crashed, apparently due to strong winds.

At least two survivors of the crash have been rescued and flown to a Mumbai hospital.

The rescue team has recovered remains of the pilot and the flight engineer.

Three vessels from the ONGC and Indian Navy personnel are carrying out search operations for possible survivors.

"An investigation has been ordered and a technical team is trying to find the reason for the crash," an official of the chopper charter company said in Mumbai.
