Sununu knocks off Smith in N.H.

CONCORD, N.H., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. John E. Sununu ousted two-term Sen. Bob Smith in the race for the Republican nomination in the closely watched U.S. Senate primary Tuesday in New Hampshire. The three-term congressman, bucking party protocol by challenging his party's sitting senator in the primary, enjoyed a 53 to 45 percent lead over Smith in late unofficial results.
