Mother asks state to spare son's killer

AUSTIN, Texas, May 15 (UPI) -- Texas pardon and parole officials early next week will consider the unusual request of a mother who wants them to spare the life of her son's killer. The prosecutor who sent Johnny Martinez to death row for a 1993 Corpus Christi murder said Wednesday he would oppose commutation for the convicted killer.
