House discusses welfare law

WASHINGTON, May 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. House of Representatives late Wednesday discussed a reauthorization of the welfare reform law that would stiffen work requirements for welfare recipients. The chamber adjourned at 11:26 p.m., and will resume discussion on the welfare law at 10 a.m. Thursday. The law would provide states with $300 million a year for programs that promote marriage and families headed by married parents.
