Calif. gov to seek more cops, wiretaps

SACRAMENTO, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- California Gov. Gray Davis is expected to announce new steps to tighten security against terrorism when he delivers his annual State of the State speech Tuesday evening. Davis reportedly wants to expand wiretap authority for local police and hire 300 more highway patrol officers despite a $12 billion budget shortfall.
