Olga downgraded to depression

MIAMI, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Olga was downgraded to a tropical depression Tuesday, but still managed to loop her way around the Atlantic east of the Bahamas with 35 mph winds.

Olga has survived for 10 days despite the end of the hurricane season last week but forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said it might finally dissipate in a day or two.

At 10 a.m. EST Tuesday, Olga was located at latitude 27.5 north, longitude 68.0 west, or about 600 miles east northeast of Nassau. The depression was drifting south-southeast.

The hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through Nov. 30, but Olga remained active.

Olga first received attention Nov. 24 as a subtropical storm and became a hurricane two days later. It was never a threat to land and was downgraded to a tropical storm Thursday. Olga is the season's 15th named storm and was the ninth hurricane.
