CHICAGO, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The former Chicago Police Department chief of detectives pleaded guilty in federal court to taking part in a multi-state jewel theft ring that had ties to organized crime. William A. Handardt, 72, who spent 33 years on the force, faces more than 12 years in prison.
