CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Darren Collison scored a team-high 24 points Saturday in New Orleans' 104-99 win over Charlotte.

Collison, who also had four assists, solidified his position as the new starting point guard for the Hornets after stepping in for Chris Paul, who will be out at least four weeks while recovering from knee surgery.

David West added 21 points for New Orleans and Peja Stojakovic scored 18.

Stephen Jackson led Charlotte with 26 points and six assists. Nazr Mohammed tallied 15.

The Hornets had a 15-6 run late in the second quarter to forge a 53-43 lead at the break.

Charlotte tied it 83-83 in the fourth quarter, then fell behind by 10 midway though the period but rallied to make the score 102-99 with 30 seconds left. Collison then hit a layup and Jackson missed a 3-pointer as time ran out.
