Continental Europe leads the Seve Trophy

KILLENARD, Ireland, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Continental Europe Saturday has a 9 1/2 - 8 ½ lead over Great Britain & Ireland after three days of the European Tour's Seve Trophy at Killenard, Ireland.

Continental built a lead of 8 1/2-5 1/2, but the Great Britain & Ireland team captured three of the four afternoon foursomes to pull within a point heading into Sunday's final day.

Great Britain & Ireland earned wins from Justin Rose and Nick Dougherty, who beat Raphael Jacquelin and Gregory Havret 2 & 1; Simon Dyson and Oliver Wilson, who posted a 3 & 2 victory over Peter Hanson and Soren Hansen; and Phillip Archer and Bradley Dredge, who topped Markus Brier and Miguel Angel Jimenez 2-up.

Continental's only victory in foursomes was the 3 & 2 win by Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Robert Karlsson over Colin Montgomerie and Graeme Storm.

Fernandez-Castano filled in for Thomas Bjorn, who was out with a stomach ailment, and combined with Karlsson to win twice during the day.
