Eagles make Harbaugh secondary coach

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday promoted long-time special teams coach John Harbaugh to the defense as secondary/safeties coach.

Harbaugh has been special teams coach/coordinator since 1998 and replaces defensive coach Sean McDermott, who moves to linebacker's coach replacing Steve Spagnuolo.

Under Harbaugh, the Eagles were consistently ranked among the NFL's Top 10 special teams. No replacement was immediately named for Harbaugh, a posting on the Eagles' Web site said.

McDermott was hired as a scouting administrative coordinator under former head coach Ray Rhodes in 1998 and remained as an assistant under Andy Reid.
