NFL: Philadelphia 27, Carolina 24

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- David Akers kicked a field goal with 3:13 left in the fourth quarter Monday as the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Carolina Panthers, 27-24.

Lito Sheppard prevented a Carolina comeback with an interception in the end zone.

Jeff Garcia had his best game since replacing the injured Donovan McNabb as the Eagles starting quarterback, throwing for 312 yards and three touchdowns. His third TD pass, a 40-yarder to Reggie Brown, tied the game at 24-24 early in the fourth quarter.

Donte' Stallworth and Brian Westbrook also made touchdown catches for the Eagles (6-6), who won for just the second time in seven games.

Jake Delhomme threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns, but was intercepted twice in the fourth quarter.
