NHL: Carolina 3, Montreal 2

MONTREAL, April 29 (UPI) -- Rod Brind'Amour scored the game-winning goal in the third period Friday night as Carolina beat Montreal, 3-2. With the victory, the Hurricanes evened up their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at 2-2.

Justin Williams had a goal and an assist; Aaron Ward scored once; while Cam Ward made 23 saves for the Hurricanes, who have recovered after losing the first two games.

Alexander Perezhogin and Sheldon Souray each scored goals; Francis Bouillon, Tomas Plekanec, Alexei Kovalev, and Mike Ribeiro had assists; while Cristobal Huet stopped 27 shots for the Canadiens,who played without star center and team captain Saku Koivu. He is out indefinitely after he was clipped near his left eye by a high stick from Williams during Game Three on Wednesday night.

The series moves back to Raleigh for Game Five on Sunday night.
