Hewitt advances at Sydney International

SYDNEY, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Lleyton Hewitt was among the second-round winners Wednesday at the Sydney (Australia) International Tennis Tournament.

Hewitt, the top-seed and two-time defending champion, beat Jurgen Melzer, 6-1, 6-4, and will face Andreas Seppi in the quarters.

Nikolay Davydenko ousted Agustin Calleri, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4); Seppi beat Chris Guccione, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2); Igor Andreev beat Peter Luczak, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6); Dmitry Tursunov topped Florent Serra, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2; Arnaud Clement ousted Juan Monaco, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3; and James Blake won in a walk-over when Carlos Moya pulled out because of a left hip injury.

Davydenko next will meet either Paradorn Srichaphan or Ivo Karlovic and Blake plays Arnaud Clement. Srichaphan and Karlovic were rained out on Wednesday, which means the winner of that match will have to play twice on Thursday.
