INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 16 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt reached the quarterfinals Wednesday at the Pacific Life Open.
Roddick, seeded third behind Hewitt and Roger Federer, defeated Fernando Gonzalez, 6-4, 6-3. Hewitt, a two-time winner of this event, coasted by Paul-Henri Mathieu, 6-1, 6-0.
Roddick will meet Carlos Moya in the quarterfinals while Hewitt will face either Guillermo Coria or Andre Agassi.
Moya earned his quarterfinal spot with a 7-6, 6-2 decision over Fabrice Santoro, 7-5, 6-2.
On the women's side of the draw Elena Dementieva moved into the semifinals by defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Dementieva's semifinal opponent will be Kim Clijsters, who lost a set for the first time in the tournament but still defeated Conchita Martinez, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
The other women's quarterfinals on Thursday will find Lindsay Davenport meeting Nathalie Dechy and Maria Sharapova facing Mary Pierce.
