BOBBY BROWN BUSTED AGAIN

It's like déjà vu all over again...

Troubled R&B singer Bobby Brown was arrested on drug and traffic charges in Atlanta early Thursday morning.

According to the police report, which is posted on The Smoking Gun Web site, Whitney Houston's husband initially was pulled over for tearing through Atlanta's posh Buckhead neighborhood. He was charged later with not only speeding, but possession of less than an ounce of marijuana after he failed to produce his driver's license and proof of insurance.

"I don't have an ID, but I'm Bobby Brown," the 33-year-old singer allegedly told the arresting officer.

The cop ran Brown's name through the police computer and found he had a 5-year-old warrant for an arrest in nearby DeKalb County. The former New Edition group member has a history of drug and traffic-related arrests; the DeKalb County incident reportedly also involved driving while under the influence, reckless driving and no insurance.

CNN reports a Georgia judge refused to let Brown answer the 1996 charge without going to court and issued the warrant for the singer's arrest when he neglected to show up for his court date.

Brown served 26 days in a Florida jail in 2000 for violating the terms of his probation for a different 1996 drunken-driving arrest.

STEVE MARTIN TO HOST 75TH ACADEMY AWARDS

Comic actor Steve Martin will host the 75th Anniversary Academy Awards, said the producer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in a Thursday telecast.

"The 75th Anniversary show is a meaningful one for the Academy, and it is wonderful to work with a host who's done it before," said producer Gil Cates. "A host who's witty, clever, sharp, intelligent, quick on his feet and always on top of the unfolding action. Wait, I've forgotten something. Oh yeah, and outrageously funny.

"He's also a gentleman, a gentle man and a delight to work with," Cates added.

This will be Martin's second appearance as Oscar host. He first served as ringleader of the live broadcast in March 2001 for the 73rd Academy Awards. In addition, Martin has served as a presenter on six shows and introduced a Best Picture clip on the 69th telecast in 1997. He also participated in a gag film sequence for the 67th show in 1995. The 75th live broadcast is set for March 23, 2003.

"I'm very pleased to be hosting the Oscars again, because fear and nausea always make me lose weight," Martin said in a statement.

Martin recently completed filming the Disney comedy "Bringing Down the House," with co-stars Queen Latifah and Eugene Levy. The film is due out this spring. He begins "Shopgirl," which he adapted for the screen from his own best-selling novella, in January. Along with Martin, the film will star Claire Danes and Jimmy Fallon, under the direction of Anand Tucker. Martin's next novel, "The Pleasure of My Company," will be published next fall by Hyperion.

A week before controversial rapper Eminem's semi-autobiographical film "8 Mile" opens, the movie's soundtrack topped the Billboard album chart.

Billboard says the CD sold 702,000 copies the first week it was in stores. In addition to music from Marshall Mathers, the album also features selections by Macy Gray, Jay-Z and Nas.

It was a particularly good week for Eminem: his solo album, "The Eminem Show" came in at No. 8.
