LOS ANGELES, July 24 (UPI) -- Chadwick Boseman plays the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown in the upcoming film Get on Up, which tells the story of how the singer rose from an impoverished childhood to top of the charts.

In the film, Brown says his music isn't any style but "James Brown style," because "it's so far ahead of its time, they ain't got a name for it yet."

Boseman stars alongside Viola Davis, Dan Aykroyd and Nelsan Ellis. Get on Up hits theaters August 1.
