"Listen to me. When the time comes, you gotta run and don't look back. This is over," a mysterious voiceover proclaims as seven cowboys ride past on their horses.

"Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland. The game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience," reads the official synopsis.

The seven cowboys featured in the trailer seemingly represent the same group of characters featured in a silhouetted teaser image used to announce the game on Tuesday.

The original Red Dead Redemption was released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. It followed former outlaw John Marston as he became a hired gun for the government after his wife and son were taken hostage. The top-selling and critically acclaimed hit was preceded by Red Dead Revolver which was released for the Playstation 2 and Xbox in 2004.

It remains unclear of whether or not this new title works as a prequel to Red Dead Redemption that also stars John Marston.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to release in Fall 2017.
