NEW YORK, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Jamie Lee Curtis says she invented an early form of Instagram. The 56-year-old actress revealed as much in an interview with AdWeek published Tuesday. Curtis was discussing social media when told the website she "started" Instagram three years before the photo sharing app debuted.

"I recognized that people wanted to share photographs from their iPhones, so I started a Blogspot called iPhoneys for iPhone photographers to share their vision," she recalled. "By the time we started doing it with any regularity, Instagram began."
"I just didn't have the savvy," she said of why she never capitalized on the idea. "I feel like I was ahead of the curve and saw the future of iPhone picture sharing, yet I have reaped none of the rewards."
Computer programmer Kevin Systrom and software engineer Mike Krieger co-founded and launched Instagram in 2010. The app was acquired by Facebook for approximately $1 billion in 2012, and had over 300 million users as of December 2014.
"They're still up there," Curtis said of the iPhoneys to Entertainment Weekly on SiriusXM the same day. Funny enough, really the day that Instagram was announced is the day that they stopped because as soon as that was available, that's all we did."
Curtis is known for starring as Laurie Strode in the Halloween movies, and currently portrays college dean Cathy Munsch on Fox horror-comedy Scream Queens. The series co-stars Emma Roberts, Skyer Samuels and Lea Michele, and airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
