SAN FRANCISCO, May 20 (UPI) -- Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg married his longtime girlfriend at his Palo Alto, Calif., home, the social media executive posted on his Facebook page.

Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan updated their Facebook statuses to "married" following the surprise Saturday wedding, one day after Facebook made its stock market debut, CNN reported Sunday.

About 100 guests at the ceremony thought they were there to celebrate Chan's recent graduation, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported.

The Facebook chief executive, 28, posted a wedding photograph featuring the two against a backdrop of plants and a string of lights. The couple met during Zuckerberg's sophomore year at Harvard University

The wedding comes less than a week after Chan graduated the University of California, San Francisco, with a medical degree. Chan plans to become a pediatrician, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Sunday.

"I'm so proud of you, Dr. Chan : )," Zuckerberg posted in a check-in at the commencement Monday.
