LOS ANGELES, April 8 (UPI) -- Jamie Spears has asked a Los Angeles court to make future son-in-law Jason Trawick co-conservator over his daughter, Britney, a source has told People.

The elder Spears has had legal control over his daughter and her finances since the singer suffered a psychological breakdown in 2008, but if the court allows it, Trawick will only share control over Britney Spears's general well being, not her finances, the source said.

Trawick would be able to make decisions concerning the singer's food, medical care and clothing, People said.

A Los Angeles attorney not connected with the case weighed in on the unusual nature of the matter.

"This is a very unusual situation, because generally you don't see conservatees get married," said probate attorney Jeffrey S. Cohen. "This could be a sign that the couple's wedding is around the corner."

"This is probably a compromise between Britney, her father and Trawick to get the marriage off on the right foot. Obviously, her future husband needs to have a say in her well being," Cohen said.
