Vandalism closes art exhibit in Czech Rep.

BRNO, Czech Republic, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- An art exhibition was shut down in the Czech Republic after vandals struck twice, a gallery official says.

Rostislav Korycanek, director of the House of Art in Brno, said four transparent balls holding entries in a design competition were damaged, the Czech news agency CTK reported Saturday.

"It is deplorable that this presentation is not safe from a certain part of the public," Korycanek said of the attacks on Thursday and Saturday night.

Two unidentified men, ages 22 and 24, confessed to being drunk when they vandalized two of the balls Thursday night and have offered to pay restitution.

Korycanek said, however, it is impossible to repair the damaged transparent balls or properly determine the cost of the vandalism damages.

CTK said the individuals responsible for Saturday's act of vandalism, which resulted in two more balls being damaged, remain unidentified.
