LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- "Dancing with the Stars" professional dancer Julianne Hough confirmed Monday on the U.S. show she will undergo surgery to remove her appendix.

During Monday's episode, Hough said she has endometriosis and will undergo surgery to have her appendix removed Tuesday.

Despite her medical problems, Hough turned in an energetic samba Monday with partner Cody Linley before announcing she would have to take sick leave. Until she returns, Linley will dance with Edyta Slawinska, who along with partner comedian Jeff Ross was eliminated earlier in the competition.

Hough was taken to the hospital last week after complaining of stomach pains while taping a recap episode of "DWTS."

Several other members of the cast have suffered injuries this season, perhaps the most problem-plagued in the show's history.

Olympian Misty May-Treanor was forced to drop out of the competition with a severed tendon. Model Brooke Burke also suffered a tendon injury although she was able to continue dancing as has Susan Lucci, who broke two bones in her foot.
