Kanye, UGK win big at BET Awards

LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- Kanye West and UGK each won two prizes in the 2008 BET Awards handed out in Los Angeles.

West was named Best Male Hip Hop Artist and won in the Best Collaboration category for "Good Life" featuring T-Pain, while UGK scored the Best Group prize and also earned the award for Video of the Year for "International Player's Anthem (I Choose You)" featuring Outkast.

Alicia Keys was named Best Female R&B Artist, Chris Brown was awarded the Best Male R&B Artist honor and Missy Elliott landed the prize for Best Female Hip Hop Artist.

BET named The Dream this year's Best New Artist, while Marvin Sapp won the award for Best Gospel Artist.

Comedian and actor D.L. Hughley presided over the star-studded event, which featured appearances by LL Cool J, Terrence Howard, Queen Latifah, Diddy, John Legend, David Banner, MC Lyte, Jennifer Hudson, Tyrese, Jordin Sparks, Mel B, Nia Long, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Morris Chestnut, Gabrielle Union, Mary Mary, Lauren London and Kevin Hart.

The awards were distributed Tuesday night.
