McCready picked up for probation violation

NASHVILLE, July 26 (UPI) -- Police arrested country singer Mindy McCready at Nashville International Airport, charging her with violating probation because of her arrest in Florida.

During the weekend, McCready was charged with assaulting her mother in North Fort Myers, Fla., along with resisting arrest. Florida authorities said she also created a disturbance when she was booked.

Williamson County, Tenn., Deputy District Attorney Derek Smith said McCready violated her probation in three ways, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported Thursday. She received three years' probation after pleading guilty to fraudulently obtaining the painkiller Oxycontin at a pharmacy in 2004.

"One was the new charges in Florida," Smith told the Tennessean. "The second was not reporting the new charges to her probation officer, which under the terms of her probation she is to do immediately, and third is the assaultive behavior based on the new charge."

McCready could serve up to three years in prison if convicted of violating her probation, Smith said.

Regarding the Florida incident, McCready said the family had been playing a board game when a family issue they were discussing got out of hand. She said deputies overreacted and tackled her while she was holding her toddler son.
