Williams reportedly told police she had been watching the dog for a friend. But Palm Beach Animal Control, which requires all residents to register their pets, had records claiming Williams as the owner of the pit bull as well as a Jack Russell terrier.

The guard said the dog, who was roaming around outside, bit him after he approached him, the newspaper said. Since the guard was not seriously injured, the bite was not reported.

Williams said the dog had gotten loose when she let it outside.

Serena and her sister, Venus Williams, returned to the Palm Beach County Courthouse Monday in regards to a multimillion-dollar breach of contract lawsuit filed against the family over a failed tennis tournament.
